Fido, Virgin Plus, and Koodo have fully converged. As of April 29, 2026, all three flanker brands are priced identically at every tier -- $40/mo for 20GB, $45/mo for 60GB Canada-only, and $50/mo for 60GB Canada-US-Mexico. The pricing is so close that most Canadians will shrug and pick whichever they have heard of first.

That would be a mistake. One plan includes a free perk worth $54 in avoided roaming charges. Here is the full breakdown.

All prices reflect autopay discount. Fido saves $5/mo with autopay. Virgin Plus and Koodo save $10/mo.

The Fido Problem

Fido's $50/mo plan looks identical to Koodo and Virgin Plus on price. Look closer and there is a catch buried in the extras: US and Mexico roaming is included for the first 12 months only. After a year, roaming reverts to $16/day in the US and $18/day internationally.

This is the same pattern Rogers used on its 5G+ Essentials plan -- bundle roaming as a promotional feature, not a permanent one. A customer who switches to Fido today for the roaming inclusion and forgets about the 12-month expiry will find themselves paying $16/day on a plan they chose specifically to avoid that charge.

Virgin Plus and Koodo both include permanent CAN-US-MEX roaming. No expiry, no fine print.

Virgin Plus vs Koodo -- The Perk Question

With Fido effectively eliminated for anyone who travels regularly, the real comparison is Virgin Plus versus Koodo at the same $50/mo.

Virgin Plus includes hotspot, unlimited international texting, voicemail, call display, call waiting, conference calling, and suspicious call detection. Permanent roaming is genuine. It is a well-rounded plan with no surprises.

Koodo at $50/mo includes all the essentials plus one free perk of your choice. The perk options are: 3-Day Easy Roam International (three days of international roaming in 60+ countries), 3-Day Easy Roam US (three days of US roaming), Rollover Data (unused data rolls over to the next month), Unlimited Long Distance to 27 countries, or a 5G Speed Boost up to 500Mbps.

The 3-Day Easy Roam International perk is the one that changes the math entirely.

Koodo charges $18/day for international roaming without a perk. Three days of international roaming on demand costs $54. Koodo gives you that for free as your included perk -- on top of the permanent CAN-US-MEX roaming already in the plan.

For any Canadian who travels internationally even once a year -- a long weekend in London, a trip to Japan, a week in Portugal -- the 3-Day Easy Roam International perk is worth $54 at zero additional cost. At identical pricing, Koodo is the better plan the moment you step off a flight outside North America.

Canada-Only Tier

For Canadians who never travel to the US or internationally:

CarrierPlanPriceDataFree Perk
Fido60GB Canada$45/mo60GBNo
Virgin Plus60GB Canada$45/mo60GBNo
Koodo60GB Canada$45/mo60GBYes

All three are exactly $45/mo for 60GB. Koodo includes the free perk. Same price, more value -- Koodo wins at this tier too.

The 20GB Entry Tier

All three carriers now offer a 20GB 5G plan at $40/mo. Koodo includes the same free perk here. The 3-Day Easy Roam International perk worth $54 applies at every tier. A customer paying $40/mo on any of these carriers recoups the full perk value the first time they use three days of international roaming.

Who Should Choose What

Koodo is the right pick at every tier for most Canadians -- identical pricing across the board, permanent roaming at the CAN-US-MEX tier, and a free perk worth up to $54 that no other flanker brand offers.

Virgin Plus is a clean alternative if you prefer the Bell network over the Telus network, or if your specific area has stronger Bell coverage. Permanent roaming and solid features make it a reliable plan at every price point.

Fido is only the right choice if you genuinely never travel internationally and want a Rogers-network plan. For anyone who crosses the border or travels internationally even once, the 12-month roaming expiry makes it the weakest option in this comparison at every tier.
